Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1809 by King Max I Joseph of Bayern and confirmed in 1985.

The oldest seals of the city, dating from the 13th century, already showed a castle gate with in the gate a canting comb (Kamm). Above the shield the seals showed the crest of the Margraves of Cham-Vohburg. Later, when the city had become a possession of the Wittelsbach family, Dukes of Bayern, the seals showed the same arms, but now with the Wittelsbach crest.
On the smaller seals of the city only a shield with the comb was used.
The chief with the swords was added only in 1809. The diamonds in the chief are derived from the arms of the Wittelsbach family.
