De gueules à la tour donjonnée d’argent, pavillonnée de gueules à la croix d’argent, posée sur un mont de sinople.

Origin/meaning

The arms symbolise the castle of the Lords of Metz, which also gave the town it's name (Châtel = castle). The lords also granted the town rights in 1226.
