This page is the starting point to look for a coat of arms with a particular charge or shield division or to identify unknown arms. As not all arms on the site are categorised, I can not guarantee that an image can be found. If you can not find the image, you can also send a mail to see if I can help.

Be aware: there are NO personal arms listed here !

Steps for identification:

• Do not initially consider supporters, crests, mottoes and similar, as these are not always listed
• Do not consider the colours at this moment

• The arms are just divided and do not have some items (figures, plants, etc) ?
  • Just divided equally (horizontally, vertically etc), start searching in the category Division of the shield
  • Divided by a horizontal, vertical or diagonal bar : see the category Division lines and pales
  • The arms only show a cross : see the category Crosses
  • The arms simply show a small square, diamond, circle or similar geometrical figure : see the category Ordinaries
  • The arms show only the top or bottom in a different colour, or show a border : see the category Ordinaries
  • The arms show only a single colour or 'fur' : see the category Colours and furs
• The arms show some item (charge), such as a flower, plant, animal building etc. Only consider the main (=largest) charge, or consider the carge in the upper right (=upper left for the viewer) part of the arms when all fields and charges are equal
