The stylized woman on the left of the shield recalls a small Punic (Carthaginian) settlement on the site  of present-day Casablanca. It recalls the Punic goddess Tanit. The cog on the right suggests industry – Casablanca is Morocco’s economic capital. The crown at the top suggests that the city is also the location of a major royal residence.
