Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 27, 1978.

The right half show the two canting goats, taken from the arms of the discoverer of Brasil, Pebro Álvarez Cabral. The city was named in his honour, Paulista indicating the state of São Paulo. The cross in the left half is the symbol of Jesus, patron of the city.

The shield is surrounded by cotton and mulberry (with silk moth cocoons) branches, the main agricultural crops in the area.
