Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on June 28, 1974.

The lower half shows two crossed lilies, which are taken from the arms of the Frauenroth Abbey, founded in 1231 and which had many possessions in the present municipality and thus played a major role in the local history. The first quarter shows the checkuered field of the Counts of Henneberg-Bodenlauben, who also played an important role in the local history. The second quarter shows two red clubs, the canting arms of the family von Rotenkolben. This family was as foresters important in the development of several villages that were founded in the Salzforst forests.
