Arms (crest) of Buncrana

Official blazon

Argent on a base barry wavy of six vert and or a bridge of six arches proper thereon a stag courant also proper, in chief two crosses crosslet fitchée gules on a point in base of the last a crescent of the first. Motto : Parthas Éireann.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 1, 1989.

The stag and the crescent are derived from the badges of the most important historical clans in the area; the O'Dohery's and the McLaughlins respectively.

The bridge represents the Castle Bridge, a local landmark. The wavy yellow and green represents the landscape, fields and beaches. The crosses are derived from the arms of the County Donegal.
