Origin/meaning
The arms show a rose surrounded by hops. The hops refer to the importance in medieval times of the cultivation of hops around the city. Already in the 13th century the area was known for its hops. In the 18th century the town became known for the cultivation of roses, hence the rose in the centre of the arms.
