Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen)
The arms were granted on July 23, 1964.
The lion is taken from the arms of the medieval rulers of the region, the Wildgrafen. The lower half shows a fountain, or well and is a canting element (Brunnen, or Born, is fountain).
