Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 16, 1909, changed in 1970 and again granted in slightly different colours on March 20, 1979.

The arms were based on the historical arms of the city, which were based on the old seal.

The chequy bar is derived from the arms of the counts of the Mark, who granted the city rights in 1396. The origin of the fleur-de-lis is not known, but is known from the seals since 1508.

The arms from 1909 were used until 1970, when new arms were granted after the merger with Dahl.
The chequy bar remained. The garb in the upper half is derived from the medieval arms of the Lords of Altenbreckerfeld, and at the same time symbolise the importance of agriculture for the municipality. The anvil in the lower half symbolises the smithies and iron factories, which have played a major role in the local economy for many centuries.

The historical arms were restored with different colours in 1979 after the second merger with Waldbauer.
