Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on ??-??-1950.

The lower half of the arms symbolises the hills of the Teutoburger Wald (forest), that borders the city. The wheel in the base of the shield symbolises craftsmanship and industry. The chevron in the chief is derived from the arms of the Counts of Ravensberg, who ruled the area until 1396.
