BISCHOFROD

State : Thüringen
District (Kreis) : Hildburghausen

Wappen von Bischofrod/Arms (crest) of Bischofrod
Official blazon
German

Geviert; 1: in Rot ein goldener bewurzelter Laubbaum; 2: in Gold ein blau-silbem-blau gespaltener schräglinker Wellenbalken; 3: in Silber ein schwarzes Mühlrad; 4: in Rot ein goldener Bischofsstab.

English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 2, 1992.

The first and fourth quarter are canting for the name of the village, which means a place cleared of the forest (Rodung) by or for a bishop (Bischof). This is symbolised by a tree trunk and a crosier. The second quarter symbolises the Weissbach (white stream). The wheel in the third quarter symbolises the two historical water mills in the municipality.
