Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 25, 1977.

The arms show a St. Andrew's cross, as St. Andrew is the patron saint of the church in Velmede. Historically the Velmede parish encompassed most of the present municipality. The silver and blue colours are derived from the arms of the County of Arnsberg, to which the area historically belonged.
