Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 16, 1949.

The upper part shows the cross of the State of Trier, as the whole district historically belonged to Trier. The lobster is taken from the arms of Cardinal Nicolaus Cusanus, born in 1401 in Kues in the district. The grape symbolises the importance of viticulture in the area.
