Official blazon

Gespalten; vorne die bayerischen Rauten, hinten in Gold ein roter Zinnenturm, in dessen offenem Tor ein schwarzer Bär hockt, der einen grünen Becher hält.

Origin/meaning

The oldest known seals of the town date from the 15th century and show only a beaker. In the 16th century a bear was added, as a canting symbol (Bär=bear).

The above arms were granted to the town in 1578 and show the old symbols in a tower as a symbol for the town itself. The right half of the shield shows the diamonds derived from the arms of the Wittelsbach family, Dukes of Bayern. The new arms appear on the seals in the late 16th century and all later seals show the arms. The colours are known since 1812 and have not changed since.
