Origin/meaning

Bensberg developed around one of the castles of the Counts of Berg and received certain freedom in 1575. Bensberg became a city in 1947.

The arms are based on the seal of the town from the 16th century and were granted in 1927. The arms show in the upper part the arms of the Counts of Berg. The deer symbolises the (former) large forests in the area.
