Origin/meaning

The upper part shows the arms of the Lordship Bedburg, which is derived from the arms of Heinsberg. The lower part is the arms of the Lords of Salm-Reifferscheidt. The Reifferscheidt family was appointed vassals over Bedburg in 1291 by the Bishops of Köln. The oldest seals first only show a dragon, the supporter of the Reifferscheidt arms. Later seals show the dragon holding the shield. The arms were devised in the 19th century and were confirmed after the merger on November 7, 1977.

In the early 20th century the arms below were shown in the Kaffee Hag albums. These arms show the same composition, but without the silver bars in the upper half.
