BARMSTEDT

State : Schleswig-Holstein
District (Kreis) : Pinneberg

Wappen von Barmstedt

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

Barmstedt received city rights in 1896 and the arms were granted on May 6, 1913.

The bordure is taken from the arms of the Counts of Holstein, who ruled the town until 1640. The vertical division of the shield is derived from the arms of the Counts of Rantzau, who ruled the town from 1649-1726. The windmill symbolises the windmills in the city, the oldest dating from 1270. The knight symbolises the 13th century local Knights of Barmstede.
