Origin/meaning

Barlinek was founded in the 13th century as New Berlin, later it became known as Berlinchen, since 1945 as Barlinek. The oldest seal of the town dates from 1349 and shows a city gate with a small shield with the eagle of Brandenburg, the territory to which the town belonged. Later seals all show the eagl eof Brandenburg.The Brandenburg colours are a red eagle in silver, armed of gold. As a decoration often on the wings s crescent, ending in a trefoil was showm.All images of the city have shown this basic outline, but the colours of the claws, tongue, bill and decoration have changed during the years.
