The arms are, according to legend, derived from the following story:,br> A legend tells that an "ocean" of Turks attacked Barletta a thousand years ago. The lord of Barletta gathered his soldiers and with great courage faced the invaders. The Turks were defeated and the lord cleaned his hand full of blood on the door's wall of Barletta.
