Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 20, 1983.

Balaguer became the capital of the county of Urgell in the 12th century; the arms show the gold and black chequered field of Urgell, and the count crown, besides to the royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon: four gules pales on gold.
