Origin/meaning

Bad Pyrmont developed in the 16th century as a city around the mineral spa. The oldest known seal, dating from 1848, shows a savage with an esculape and snake for the spa, and holding a shield with a cross. These arms are the arms of the 13th century Counts of Pyrmont, who had their castle on the Schellenberg mountain near the city. The arms have been used by all their successors until the present day.
