State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Ahrweiler
Incorporated into : 1969 Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler

Wappen von Bad Neuenahr/Arms (crest) of Bad Neuenahr
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

Bad Neuenahr was named Wadenheim until 1875. It was situated in the former county of Neuenare and the new name was derived thereof. The prefix Bad (health resort) was granted in 1927.

The oldest seal of the village dates from 1546 and showed the eagle of the Counts of Neuenare and the lion of their successors the Dukes of Jülich. The latter ruled the town until 1614. The present arms were granted in 1951 and are based on this seal. The point shows a fountain, a symbol for the health resort.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
