Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms of the city show the banner of the State of Würzburg. The city was a possession of the Counts of Henneberg until 1354. The oldest seals thus shows the arms of the Counts of Henneberg, a rooster standing on a mountain. When the city became a possession of Würzburg, the banner appears in the seals and the arms. The oldest known use of the banner of Königshofen dates from 1355. The arms have thus basically never changed. The present colours are known since the early 16th century.
