BABICE (CHRZANÓW)

Province: Małopolska
County: Chrzanów

Arms (crest) of Babice (Chrzanów)

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The medieval castle of Lipowiec, with its tall white tower, is overlooking Babice and once it was one of the most important fortresses in southern Poland (until it was burned by the invading Swedish forces in the 17th century). In 1683 the King of Poland, John III Sobieski, stopped at the castle en route to the besieged Vienna, which he later saved from the Turkish conquest by defeating the Ottoman army.

The arms of Babice displays the white castle of Lipowiec against the green background (which stand for green forests surrounding the castle) and a letter "B" for "Babice" in the gate of the castle.
