Administrative division

Australia is divided into 6 States and two Territories and also comprises aseveral outlying islands, which are also seen as territories.

These are further divided into smaller local government councils, of which there are 565. These are designated as Municipalities, Towns, Cities or Shires. Only a few of these actually use arms.
