Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Norway - Norske Kommunevåpen |
AUST-AGDER PROVINCE
Official blazon
På rød bunn to gull bjelker.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 12, 1958.
The arms show two golden bars in red. The bars represent the two different communities, the land-based and ahore-based communities. The bars also represent trees, as timber was harvested in the inner parts of the province and shipped from the harbours. Forestry still is an important activity.
Literature : Capellen and Johannessen, 1987.
