ARFURT

State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Limburg-Weilburg (until 1975 Oberlahnkreis)
Incorporated into : 1970 Runkel

Wappen von Arfurt/Arms (crest) of Arfurt
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 22, 1949.

The oldest seal of the village dates from 1811 and shows the lion of Nassau, as the village was part of Nassau at the time. Later 19th century seals showed the local church, built between 1827-9. The arms were based on this seal. The main colours, silver and red, are those of Trier, as until 1803 the village belonged to the archdiocese of Trier.
