Official blazon

Schräg geteilt von Schwarz und Silber; oben und unten je ein gestieltes Kleeblatt in verwechselten Farben.

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the arms of the Lords of Abenberg, who descended from the Lords of Altmann, who built the local castle from which the town got its name. The arms are in use since the second half of the 14th century, even though the town was a possession of the Wittelsbach family since 1485. The colours are known since 1560, but in the 19th century the arms were often shown in different colours.
