ALIÓ

Region : Catalonia
Province : Tarragona

Escudo de Alió

Official blazon

Escut caironat partit: al 1r., d’argent, un mig vol d’atzur; i al 2n., d’or, una creu de Santa Tecla de sable. Per timbre, una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 27, 2000.

The arms are canting: the "ala" (Catalan for "wing") reminds the name of the village. They show too a Tau cross (or cross of Santa Tecla), because Alió belonged to the archbishops of Tarragona (St. Tecla being the patron saint of Tarragona, the nearby regional centre).
