Origin/meaning

The arms were officially registered on February 12, 1994.

The word "Alcorochel" was originaly "Alcorujal" and it means the place where the screech-owls (corujas in Portuguese) were living in old times. Hence the owl in the arms.

The grapes indicate that Alcorochel is known in the region because the winegrowers of the village make very good wine from their grapes.
