Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of France - Armorial de France |
AIN
Origin/meaning :
The arms are a combination of the arms of the former provinces to which the départemnet historically belonged :
the first quarter shows the arms of Bresse, the second those of Pays de Gex, the third the province of Dombes and the fourth of Bugey.
The white cross is derived from the arms of Bourg-en-Bresse, the capital of the département.
