Origin/meaning

The arms are canting. "Zmija" means snake or serpent, and "grod" means town. The old German name, Trachenberg, also means dragon-hill. town, or in

Żmigród received city rights in 1253 and the image of dragon and tower already appeared on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from 1402. All later seals have shown the same composition, but the size and shape of the elements as well as as the position of the dragon have changed often during the years
