CRATO E MÁRTIRES

Municipality : Crato

District : Portalegre

Cratom.gif

Origin/meaning :
The arms were officially registered on April 23, 1997.

The arms show the cross of the Knights of St John of Malta, as the order owned the village for about 6 centuries. The palm leaves symbolise the martyrs, as the local parish is devoted to Our lady of the Martyrs.
