COURCELLES-LÈS-LENS

Département : Pas-de-Calais

Blason de Courcelles-lès-Lens

Official blason

D'azur semé de fleurs de lis d'or, au cerf passant d'argent brochant sur le tout ; au chef ondé d'azur chargé de trois merlettes d'argent.

Origin/meaning

The deer on the filed with fleur-de-lys is taken from the arms of the Anchin Abbey, to which the village historically belonged. The chief shows three merles, taken from the arms of the Beauffremez family, lords of the village from 1174-1403.

The wavy chief refers to the former marshlands (drained in 1830).
