Wappen von Steckborn/Arms (crest) of Steckborn

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms have been in use since the 17th century and have not been formally granted.

The ring probably is the oldest symbol for the town, and may have been taken from the arms of the Landerberg or Knöring families, which were of importance in the town. The two staffs may have been added as a symbol taken from the arms of the Labhart family.

The oldest image of the arms from around 1500 shows a rather differnt design. The first version showing only the ring and dated from 1543. It is visible in the city hall of Stein am Rhein. The oldest image of the present arms dates from 1585 on a stone in the Steckborn town hall.
