VARGEM

State : São Paulo

Arms of Vargem (São Paulo)
Official blazon
Portuguese blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 1, 1993.

The eagle symbolizes victory and nests in high places, alluding to the mountainous terrain where the city is located and to the victory of the settlers over the harshness of the region. The crosses evoke the first church built in the region at the beginning of the settlement and the wavy base to represent the great lake from which comes to the Capital of the State part of the water it needs.

The supporters are two "bandeirantes", those courageous men who entered the frightful forests and enlarged the territory of Brazil; they show that near the place where now the city stand there was a resting place where the "bandeirantes" rested for a while waiting for a good opportunity to go on.

The shield is surmounted by a mural crown appropriate to a city and a scroll below the shield bears the name of the city.
