Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on November 12, 1951.
The arms show a panther's head, derived from the arms of the Counts of Ortenburg-Kraiburg from the Spanheim dynasty. The family ruled the area from 1140-1248. The rest of the arms are canting, Grassau means a rather moist area used to grow grasses. The blue and silver colours are the colours of Bayern, to which the area belongs since 1260.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
