Origin/meaning

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: The colors of the insignia reflect the school colors. The reversed shield shape with notches to the sides is reminiscent of a mini-ball bullet used in rifles of the Civil War era. The confederate soldier is the school mascot.

Shoulder Loop Insignia: The rebel soldier is the school mascot. The kepi cap, distinctive to the confederate states’ troops in the Civil War, reflects the confederate soldier, the school’s mascot.

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and the Shoulder Loop Insignia was both approved on 22 February 1996
