WILHELMUS JOHANNES DEMARTEAU
Born : January 24, 1917
Deceased : December 5, 2012
Apostolic Vicar of Bandjarmasin, 1954-1961; Titular Bishop of Arsinoë in Cypro
Bishop of Bandjarmasin, 1961-1983
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were adopted in 1954.
The silver shield symbolises the purity of the Catholic Church. The black bar symbolises the non-believers. The three fleur-de-lys are the Holy family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. The arms thus symbolise that the bishop will bring the Catholic faith to the people of Borneo. This is also reflected in the motto.
