Origin/meaning
The arms have been used by the city of Thun since the 13th century. The original black star was replaced by the golden star after the Battle of Murten in 1476. The arms are also used by the district of Thun, founded in 1803.
The medieval seals of the city did not show the arms, but a gate or castle, see below.
