Official blazon

In gespaltenem Schild vorne in Schwarz eine silberne Stechstange, hinten in Silber ein durchgehendes schwarzes Deutschordenskreuz.

Origin/meaning

The arms were proposed by the State Archives in 1938 for a the combined municipalities Untergriesheim, Obergriesheim and Höchstberg. The arms show in the right half a type of hook used by the local fishermen, and in the left half the cross of the Teutonic Order. The latter ruled the area from the late 15th century until 1803. As the merger never occurred, the arms were no longer needed. Finally in 1959 Untergriesheim adopted the arms, which were officially granted on September 14, 1959.
