Arms (crest) of Karlslunde-Karlstrup

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially registered in 1962.

The arms show a tulip in a bordure. The tulip design was very popular among the so-called Hebedokultur-decorations, produced in the 18th and 19th century in the area. Before the arms were finally granted, two other designs were proposed :

Seal of Karlslunde-Karlstrup
Arms (crest) of Karlslunde-Karlstrup

The left image has the same elements as the arms as were granted, with the addition of two silver crosses, which were also used in the same decorative style. The right image has a completely different design, and shows a horse with moon and star. This refers to a local legend, in which a black horse runs at night in the local hills.

After some discussion it was decided to remove the crosses and change the colours of the first design to black and white. When these arms were send for registration, a long discussion developed, as the municipality had not consulted the state herald, which had quite some comments. After a long discussion, the municipality managed to have the arms granted.
