The arms are a combination of elements from the arms of families that ruled parts of the municipality.
The first quarter shows the arms of the Spangen family, Lords of Ottignies from 1602-1731. These were also used by the former municipality Ottignies.
The second quarter shows the arms of the Coloma family, last Lords of Céroux. The third the arms of Anne-Josèphe de la Croix, Abbess of the Florival abbey, who owned theland where is now the town of Louvain-la-Neuve.
The fourth shows the old arms of Limelette.
