Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 28, 1993.

Perloja received city rights and its first arms on April 26, 1792 from Stanislaus Augustus of Lithuania and Poland. The arms were already described as a European bison, with a cross between its horns. The arms were most likely derived from the arms of Kaunas, as Kaunas was the center of the district to which Perloja belonged.
Perloja lost its city rights and its arms already after one month (!).

Only in 1993 the old arms were restored.
