Coats of arms showing Saint Gorgonius of Nicomedia.

Saint Gorgonius of Nicomedia was a Christian martyr, part of the group Gorgonius, Peter Cubicularius and Dorotheus, who died in 304 AD at Nicomedia during the persecution of Emperor Diocletian. He was an army officer, but otherwise not much is known about him. In the 8th century his remains were moved by Saint Chrodegang, Bishop of Metz to the monastery of Gorze in Lorraine. Hence the fact that nearly all arms showing the saint originate in Lorraine.
