Origin/meaning
The original symbol for Modra is the grape vine, which appears already on 14th century seals. Viticulture has always been of great importance for the area. On August 13, 1607 the present arms were granted by Emperor Rudolf II, who added the bars from the arms of Hungary to the arms.
