Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 25, 1997.

Before the rise of Moscow, the land, where Ivanovo is now, used to belong to a united duchy of Vladimir (hence the lion supporter) and Suzdal (the bird). The torch symbolises revolution of 1905, the spindle the predominant textile industry. The wave on the bottom is the river Uvod.
