HAGENBACH
State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) :Germersheim
Verbandsgemeinde : Verbandsgemeinde Hagenbach
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
Hagenbach got city rights in 1281 from King Rudolf of Habsburg. The earliest seal dates probably from the same time and shows a canting hornbeam (Hagenbuche = hornbeam). When the town was transferred to Pfalz in 1353 the arms remained unchanged. The tree was shown in many different styles through the years, but the arms never really changed. The present arms were designed in 1928 and are directly based on the first seal.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
