German heraldry:

Selected collector's items from Germany:

ELLENBERG

State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Ostalbkreis (until 1973 Aalen)

Wappen von Ellenberg (Ostalbkreis)/Arms of Ellenberg (Ostalbkreis)
Official blazon
German

In Gold ein aus dem Schildrand wachsender, nach links gewendeter schwarzer Elchkopf.

English (Ostalbkreis) No blazon/translation known. Please click here to send your (heraldic !) blazon or translation

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1924.

The arms show a canting moose (Elch), as the name was supposedly derived from Elchenberg. As no historical arms or seals were known the moose was chosen by the State Archives as a proper symbol, even though there have never been moose in the area.
